Our Story and Mission

Improving public health through safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services where it is needed most.

International Water, Sanitation And Hygiene Foundation Australia Ltd (IWSH Australia) was established with a singular focus: to utilize the technical knowledge, regulatory standards, and practical capabilities of the plumbing and building services industries to address critical public health gaps.

We work in remote regions, outstations, and marginalized communities across Australia and neighboring developing countries. By developing sustainable water supply infrastructure, wastewater management facilities, and hygiene education campaigns, we actively combat water-borne illnesses and improve local living standards.

Our Mission

To design, construct, and maintain safe water and sanitation systems by coordinating resources between skilled trade associations, government agencies, and remote community leaders.

Our Vision

A future where every household, school, and community clinic, regardless of their location, has immediate access to clean drinking water and hygienic waste systems.

Our Core Values

These fundamental principles guide our program designs, team deployments, and partnership strategies.

01

Sustainability

We build systems designed to last, using local parts and running operational training for regional maintenance staff.

02

Community Empowerment

We do not impose solutions. We design systems in consultation with community elders, ensuring local alignment.

03

Accountability

Every dollar donated is tracked and directed into direct materials, logistics, and field toolkits, maintaining total financial clarity.

04

Collaboration

We connect industry leaders, regulatory bodies, trade unions, and local councils to solve complex infrastructure hurdles.

Board of Directors

Our leadership team brings decades of industry, compliance, and international development experience to our programs.

WASH Activities and Initiatives

We design targeted interventions addressing specific, surveyed health needs in regional and remote communities.

1. Direct WASH Infrastructure

We install, repair, and replace critical hardware in areas lacking potable water. This includes plumbing supply lines, rainwater tanks, waste capture separators, and water pump rigs built to resist high temperatures and low rainfall conditions.

Technical Components

Potable water pipeline construction
Septic and blackwater drainage installations
Solar-powered pumping station setups

2. Community Capacity Building

We focus on building local capacity rather than just delivering hardware. We supply community centres with heavy-duty repair tools and conduct hands-on training courses for local technicians to manage maintenance without external plumbers.

Technical Components

Custom heavy-duty plumbing repair toolkits
Practical training guides and certification modules
Local water testing training schemes

3. Indigenous Community WASH

We collaborate directly with Aboriginal councils and remote outstation representatives to audit domestic hardware. We address housing health hazards like raw sewage overflows, clogged kitchen sinks, and non-functional hot water systems.

Technical Components

Remote outstation plumbing health audits
Hot water system retrofits and solar installs
Wastewater drain clearance campaigns

4. Emergency WASH Response

In times of bushfires, regional flooding, or structural water grid failures, we assemble emergency response teams. We dispatch mobile filtration systems, install temporary wash basins, and restore damaged plumbing infrastructure to prevent epidemics.

Technical Components

Rapid-deployment modular filtration kits
Water storage bladder transport and installs
Temporary public handwashing station blocks

5. Advocacy and Partnerships

We collaborate with regional water authorities, standard committees, plumbing trade unions, and manufacturers. We advocate for stronger plumbing standards and policy frameworks to ensure secure water lines are integrated into every public building.

Technical Components

WASH policy briefings for building boards
Joint research into outstation plumbing compliance
National building standard review boards collaboration

6. Education and Awareness

Access to plumbing is only half the battle. We conduct health and hygiene workshops in remote schools and community hubs. We teach water conservation practices, handwashing guidelines, and simple DIY plumbing diagnostics to reduce water waste.

Technical Components

School WASH education resource booklets
Visual hygiene guideline signage for community hubs
Community water conservation workshops
